Delhi Police Apprehends 28-Year-Old and Seven Minors in Azadpur Teen Murder Case
In a significant development, Delhi Police have arrested a 28-year-old man along with seven minors for their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old youth in northwest Delhi's Azadpur area last month. The authorities disclosed the details of the arrest on Thursday, shedding light on a case of mistaken identity that turned deadly.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The tragic incident occurred on February 22 near the main gate of the MCD colony, where the victim, identified as Ishant, had gone to attend a wedding ceremony. Upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and discovered Ishant lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot injuries. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Forensic evidence collected from the crime scene included seven empty cartridges and four live cartridges, indicating the severity of the attack. Additionally, investigators found a motorcycle without a number plate and the victim's scooter abandoned at the location. A formal case was registered, and a thorough investigation was launched to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Investigation Leads to Arrests
After meticulously corroborating evidence, the police identified and nabbed the prime accused, Mohit Pal, aged 28. Mohit is described as a habitual offender with a criminal record spanning six cases, including charges of attempted murder, robbery, snatching, and theft. His arrest was followed by the detention of seven minors allegedly involved in the crime.
During interrogation, Mohit revealed that the group had convened at Bhalswa village to hatch a plan to kill one Narender. Narender was an accused in the 2024 murder of Mohit's accomplice, Deepak, and was expected to attend the wedding after being released on parole. However, when they failed to locate Narender at the event, they mistakenly targeted Ishant, believing him to be associated with Narender.
Motivation and Aftermath
The attack was reportedly orchestrated as an act of revenge for Deepak's murder, but it tragically resulted in the death of an innocent teen instead. This case highlights the dangers of vigilante justice and the severe consequences of criminal retaliation in urban areas like Delhi. The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim's family and curbing such violent incidents through rigorous law enforcement.
The involvement of minors in such a heinous crime raises concerns about juvenile delinquency and the need for preventive measures. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any further details and ensure all individuals involved are held accountable under the law.
