In a significant development, Delhi Police have made multiple arrests in connection with the violent unrest that erupted in west Delhi's Nangloi area earlier this week. The arrests include three individuals, with two identified as the main accused, for allegedly setting a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus on fire during the chaos.

Key Arrests and Identification Through CCTV Footage

The primary suspect, Navlesh Kumar, aged 45 and a resident of West Sagarpur, was apprehended after being identified through CCTV footage that allegedly shows him igniting the bus. Two other individuals, Anurag and Deepu, were also taken into custody. Additionally, police have identified four more suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to seven in this case.

Violence Triggered by Fatal Bus Accident

The unrest began on Monday following a tragic accident on the Najafgarh–Nangloi Road. Two DTC buses, reportedly attempting to overtake each other, were involved in a crash that resulted in the deaths of two men and left several others injured. In the aftermath, an angry mob of approximately 500 people gathered at the scene, leading to widespread vandalism and assaults.

The mob targeted several buses, causing extensive damage, and assaulted drivers, escalating the situation into a full-blown riot. The arson attack on the DTC bus was a particularly destructive act during this violence, prompting a swift police response to restore order and investigate the incidents.

Police Investigation and Ongoing Efforts

Delhi Police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter, utilizing surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts to track down those responsible. The arrests mark a crucial step in holding perpetrators accountable and preventing further such incidents in the area.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend any remaining individuals involved in the violence, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public safety and order in the wake of such tragic events.
