Accused Admits Inability to Assault Due to Medical Condition

The cab driver arrested for the abduction and murder of an 11-year-old girl in south Delhi has disclosed during interrogation that he was unable to sexually assault the child because of erectile dysfunction, according to police officials. Bashu Kumar Singh (29) allegedly abducted the girl from near Chhatarpur metro station in Mehrauli in the early hours of June 22 while she was sleeping beside her family on a pavement.

Police sources confirmed that Singh's medical examination has verified the condition, with his impotency test returning positive. Investigators stated that Singh, a resident of Bihar's Khagaria district, had returned to Delhi around 15 days prior and was seeking sexual gratification when he spotted the child.

Sequence of Events on the Night of Abduction

According to police, Singh parked his car next to the sleeping family with the rear door open and watched the child through the rear window before abducting her. He initially calmed the drowsy girl by promising to take her for a ride and drop her back home. As the vehicle moved, the girl woke up and called out to her father, who ran after the car and threw sticks to stop it, but Singh sped away.

Singh drove approximately 10 to 12 kilometers towards Mandi Road near Fatehpur Beri, where he attempted the assault in the rear seat but failed due to his medical condition. He then threatened the girl and drove to a secluded forested stretch near the Faridabad-Gurugram border, where he allegedly killed her and hid the body under a pile of stones.

Investigation and Arrest

The investigation initially faced challenges as the girl's father could only recall the vehicle had a yellow number plate, indicating a commercial vehicle. Police scanned CCTV footage from nearby shops, reconstructed the route, and tracked the accused. After dumping the body, Singh returned to his rented accommodation in Gurugram, changed clothes, and resumed work within hours.

Singh has lived in Delhi for over five years, previously working as a security guard before becoming a cab driver in 2023. Police revealed he has five criminal cases registered against him in Bihar, including two for attempt to murder.

Legal Proceedings and Aggregator Scrutiny

Delhi Police is preparing to issue notices to three major cab aggregators linked to Singh, seeking details of his onboarding and verification process. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered.

A separate case was filed against Singh at Fatehpur Beri police station after he allegedly tried to snatch a police officer's weapon while attempting to flee and was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing. The chargesheet will be filed soon, police said.
