However, personal belongings recovered from the scene and cross-referencing with a missing persons report enabled authorities to identify the victim as Kajal Puri, aged 24, a resident of Lapta village who had been missing since February 17.
According to family statements, Kajal left her home on that day, informing her relatives she was heading to college, but she never returned. This disappearance triggered concerns that eventually led to the filing of the missing persons report, which proved crucial in the subsequent investigation.

As Kajal began pressuring him to marry her, he refused, citing social constraints, and allegedly devised a plan to murder her.

According to the police account, on February 17, Rathore took Kajal on his motorcycle to the isolated house in Govari village. There, he allegedly attacked her with a stone, resulting in her death. In an attempt to cover his tracks, he destroyed her SIM card and hid her mobile phone to erase evidence.
Within 48 hours of the body's discovery, police successfully recovered key pieces of evidence, including the victim's mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime. This swift action led to the arrest of the accused, who now faces murder charges.
