Court Denies Bail in Marksheet Forgery Case

Kanpur: Additional District Judge VII Kanpur Nagar Nisha Srivastava on Tuesday dismissed the bail applications of two accused, Vineet Kumar and Ashwani Kumar, in a case involving the fabrication of forged educational marksheets and certificates.

Case Background

According to Vinod Tripathi, Additional District Government Counsel, the police acted on a tip-off and exposed a racket dealing in forged marksheets and certificates. The initial arrests included Jogendra and others. During the investigation, Vineet Kumar and Ashwani Kumar were also apprehended, and forged marksheets and certificates from various universities were recovered from their possession.

Arguments Presented

Both accused, in their bail applications, claimed they were innocent and had been falsely implicated. They argued that nothing incriminating was recovered from them. However, the Additional District Government Counsel strongly opposed the bail applications, contending that the accused might destroy evidence and could engage in similar illegal activities if released.

Court's Observation

The presiding judge, in her order, observed that the accused were charged with a serious crime. By forging marksheets and certificates, they had played with the future of students. The judge noted that the investigation was ongoing and there was a risk that the accused might tamper with evidence if granted bail. Without commenting on the merits of the case, and considering the nature and seriousness of the offence, the court found no grounds for granting bail. Consequently, the bail applications were dismissed.
