Police Constable Evades ACB Trap in Jhunjhunu, Leaves Officer Seriously Injured
A dramatic incident unfolded at the Chidawa police station in Jhunjhunu on Friday when a police constable allegedly attempted to run over an Anti-Corruption Bureau team during a trap operation, seriously injuring an ACB constable before fleeing with a government vehicle. The accused, identified as constable driver Anil Kumar, remains absconding as authorities have launched an intensive search operation.
Bribery Trap Turns Violent
The confrontation began when the ACB Jaipur team laid a trap to apprehend constable Anil Kumar, who was allegedly demanding a bribe from a vehicle driver by threatening action over timber transportation. ACB Deputy SP Surendra Pancholi explained the sequence of events: "After thorough verification of the complaint, our team initiated a carefully planned trap operation. The moment the accused accepted the bribe amount, we moved in to apprehend him."
However, the situation escalated rapidly when Kumar sensed the trap. According to officials, the constable allegedly drove the police vehicle recklessly in a desperate bid to escape custody. When ACB personnel attempted to stop him near the police station gate, he reversed the vehicle and sped away, deliberately attempting to run over the anti-corruption officials.
Brave Constable Suffers Serious Injuries
During the ensuing chase, ACB constable Laxminarayan demonstrated exceptional courage by clinging to the driver-side window in a determined effort to stop the fleeing vehicle. Deputy SP Pancholi described the violent encounter: "The accused deliberately rammed Constable Laxminarayan against parked vehicles, knocking him down with significant force."
The impact left the ACB constable with serious injuries, and he fell unconscious at the scene. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to a government hospital for initial treatment before he was referred to Jhunjhunu for specialized care. Medical authorities have reported that his condition is now stable, though he sustained substantial injuries during the violent confrontation.
Authorities Vow Strict Action
ACB officials have condemned the constable's actions in the strongest terms. Deputy SP Pancholi emphasized the severity of the incident: "The accused attempted to take the life of an ACB team member during the execution of official duties. This represents a grave assault on law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts. We are pursuing strict legal action against the perpetrator."
The search operation for the absconding constable continues with heightened intensity. Authorities have mobilized multiple teams to track down Kumar, who fled with the government vehicle following the violent altercation. The incident has raised serious questions about corruption within law enforcement and the risks faced by anti-corruption officials during trap operations.
This developing story highlights the dangerous challenges confronting anti-corruption agencies as they work to root out bribery and misconduct within government institutions. The Jhunjhunu incident serves as a stark reminder of the physical dangers ACB personnel routinely face while performing their duties to uphold integrity in public service.
