Congress Demands Probe into Ujjain Land Scam Allegations

The Congress party on Tuesday questioned why central investigative agencies have not taken action against those involved in the alleged land scam in Madhya Pradesh, directly implicating Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his family. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government of selectively using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target opposition leaders while ignoring corruption within its own ranks.

Venugopal Challenges PM Modi on Selective Investigations

In a post on X, Venugopal asked, "PM Modi, why have ED-CBI not knocked on the doors of MP CM Mohan Yadav? Is a 253-acre mega land scam not grounds enough to chase him and punish him for his crimes?" He alleged that a regime that is "hyperactive to misuse investigative agencies to hound Opposition leaders" is now "in deep slumber while their own chosen lieutenants loot public wealth." Venugopal also referenced PM Modi's anti-corruption pledge "Na khaoonga, na khaane doonga" (I will not eat, nor let others eat), calling it a farce that must end.

Media Reports Detail Land Acquisitions by CM's Family

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a report from the Indian Express claiming that CM Yadav's family and their real estate firms acquired at least 137 plots spanning 168 acres in Ujjain for Rs 45 crore in two years since December 2023. The acquisitions were reportedly in areas benefiting from road projects and land-use changes announced by Yadav's government. Ramesh alleged that Yadav is "himself at the helm of this looting." He also hinted at infighting within the BJP, suggesting that Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a former MP chief minister, may have orchestrated the planting of stories against Yadav over a share in power and spoils.

Congress Highlights Broader Corruption Allegations

Venugopal further linked the Ujjain land scam to other alleged scandals, including the "loot" of donation funds from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and alleged corruption by the Assam chief minister and his family. He asserted that the list of corruption under the BJP is endless and demanded justice. The Congress party's attacks come as Madhya Pradesh gears up for upcoming elections, with the opposition seeking to capitalize on corruption allegations against the ruling BJP.
