CID Assumes Control of Howrah Shooting Investigation
Two days after the fatal shooting in Howrah's Pilkhana area, which resulted in the death of promoter Shafiq Khan, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has officially taken over the probe. This development marks a significant escalation in the efforts to solve this high-profile case, with state-level resources now being deployed to apprehend those responsible.
Nationwide Manhunt Intensifies for Key Suspects
On Friday, law enforcement agencies circulated photographs and digital renditions of the primary accused, Harun Khan, and his associate Rafakat, also known as Rohit Hossain. These images, which include various disguises, have been distributed to every airport, police station, and border area across the country. The widespread dissemination aims to tighten the net around the fugitives, preventing their escape from India.
In a coordinated effort, four specialized teams from the Howrah City Police have been dispatched to key locations, including Mumbai, Bihar, Hyderabad, and Delhi. This strategic deployment underscores the seriousness with which authorities are pursuing the suspects, leveraging inter-state cooperation to track down Harun Khan and his aides.
Arrests and Motive Behind the Shooting
Recent arrests have shed light on the motive behind the violent incident. Vijay Prasad, a member of Harun's gang, was apprehended for attacking and robbing migrant workers Astik Mahato and Bibek Mahato near Howrah station on Friday. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on the gang's activities.
Further insights emerged from three individuals arrested on Thursday, who revealed that the shooting stemmed from a financial dispute. According to their statements, one of Shafiq Khan's aides allegedly duped an associate of Harun Khan out of Rs 2.5 lakh. When Shafiq refused to intervene and help recover the money, Harun plotted revenge, leading to the fatal shooting in Pilkhana.
Police Commitment to Justice
Howrah Police DC North Amlan Kusum Ghosh emphasized the department's unwavering commitment to resolving the case. "All efforts are being made to catch Harun and his aides," Ghosh stated, highlighting the comprehensive approach being taken. The integration of CID resources with local police efforts is expected to enhance the investigation's effectiveness, ensuring that justice is served for Shafiq Khan and his family.
The case continues to unfold as authorities work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice, with ongoing operations focused on apprehending Harun Khan and dismantling his criminal network.
