CID Cracks Down on Jharkhand Competitive Exam Scam, Arrests Mastermind
In a significant breakthrough, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has apprehended the alleged mastermind behind a fraudulent scheme that targeted aspirants of the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examinations 2023. The arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling an organized gang that exploited candidates under the false pretense of providing leaked question papers.
Arrest of Key Accused from Patna
Additional Director General of CID, Manoj Kaushik, confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused, identified as Anish Kumar, was taken into custody from Patna. Kumar was subsequently brought to Ranchi on transit remand and formally sent to jail on Friday. Kaushik emphasized that the law would follow its due course against the arrested individual, underscoring the department's commitment to justice in this high-profile case.
Sources within the CID revealed that Kumar was the primary beneficiary of the illicit funds collected from numerous aspirants. He had been evading capture by frequently changing his locations since the investigation commenced. However, a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) successfully tracked his movements, leading to his eventual arrest.
Wide-Ranging Network Busted, Including Security Personnel
The investigation has led to the arrest of approximately one dozen individuals connected to the scam, effectively busting the entire gang involved in cheating the examination candidates. Among those apprehended are five constables from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), one homeguard personnel, and one jawan from the Assam Rifles. This involvement of security personnel highlights the extensive and concerning reach of the fraudulent operation.
The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission conducted the examination in September 2024. Following a Jharkhand High Court order, the results were eventually published in December 2025. The court was persuaded by a CID report that conclusively stated no actual leak of the question papers had occurred, confirming that the scam was based entirely on deception rather than any genuine breach of exam security.
