A devastating road accident occurred near the Baba Ramdev temple in Jaisalmer on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old child and injuries to six other individuals, including family members and the driver. According to police reports, a group of devotees from Pali were walking on the road after performing darshan at the temple when a car, coming from Ramdevra, struck them. Senior Sub-Inspector Prataaparam of Ramdevra police station stated that the vehicle first hit six pedestrian devotees before losing control and crashing into a nearby tin shed pole. The impact was severe, leading to immediate fatalities and injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Mahir, a young resident of Pali, who tragically died on the spot. The injured include the driver, Banshilal (69), from Veeramdevra (Ramdevra), and several members of Mahir's family: his mother Lalita, his brothers Riyan (2) and Vivaan (3.5), as well as Sumitra (32) and Varsha (10), residents of Jhanwariya in Pali.
Eyewitness Account and Police Response
Eyewitness Poonam Singh provided a harrowing account of the incident, explaining that a cow suddenly appeared in front of the car. In an attempt to avoid the animal, the driver steered the vehicle to one side, inadvertently causing Mahir to come under the car. The vehicle then collided with the remaining devotees before ultimately crashing into the tin shed pole.
Police have confirmed that all injured individuals were promptly taken to Ramdevra Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of their conditions, they were later referred to Pokhran District Hospital for further medical care. Authorities are actively investigating the case to determine the exact circumstances and potential liabilities involved in this tragic event.
