A heartbreaking tragedy struck a migrant labourers' colony in Gandhinagar on Tuesday evening, claiming the life of a six-year-old boy. The child fell into an open gutter while playing, highlighting a severe lapse in civic safety.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim has been identified as Priyansh Rajkumar Ram. He was the son of migrant labourers who had recently moved to Ratanpur village near GIFT City from Jharkhand in search of work. The family lived in a labourers' colony within the village.
On Tuesday evening, Priyansh was playing with other children from the colony. During their play, he accidentally fell into an open gutter. The other children present immediately rushed to inform his parents, who were at work at the time.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Response
Upon receiving the information, a team from the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation quickly arrived at the site. They managed to pull the child out of the gutter. A 108 ambulance was summoned, and the ambulance staff performed CPR and attempted cardiac resuscitation in a desperate bid to save the boy.
Despite all efforts, the attempts were unsuccessful. Priyansh was rushed to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where a doctor formally declared him dead. Following the declaration, a medico-legal case was registered.
Investigation and Alleged Negligence
The Dabhoda police have initiated an investigation into the incident. A postmortem examination was conducted at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, and further legal proceedings are pending the report's findings.
According to sources familiar with the area, the gutter had been left open and unprotected for a long period. No action was taken by the concerned authorities to cover it or make the area safe, which ultimately led to this preventable loss of a young life. The incident has raised serious questions about infrastructure safety and accountability in areas housing vulnerable communities.
