Chhattisgarh Government Suspends Senior IPS Officer Ratan Lal Dangi

The Chhattisgarh government has taken decisive action by suspending senior IPS officer Ratan Lal Dangi, who holds the rank of inspector general. This suspension follows the emergence of alleged objectionable photographs of the officer on social media platforms, which prompted immediate departmental scrutiny and intervention.

Official Suspension Order and Preliminary Findings

An order issued by the state home department outlines that preliminary investigations indicate Dangi's conduct violated the dignity associated with his high-ranking position. The order explicitly states that his actions disturbed established service norms and ethical standards, leading to a tarnished public image for the police department.

Specifically, the suspension order notes that Dangi was found, at this initial stage, to have acted in a manner unbecoming of his post. This includes allegations of displaying conduct contrary to morality and service norms, misusing the influence of his authoritative position, and breaching established social standards.

Impact of Social Media Circulation and Public Perception

The material related to Officer Dangi was circulated extensively across electronic and social media, resulting in adverse public perception and significant damage to the reputation of the police force. Based on these developments, the government has proposed action against him under the provisions of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules and the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.

Officials have confirmed that a departmental inquiry against Dangi is already in progress. Following his suspension, he has been attached to the police headquarters in Nava Raipur. As part of the suspension terms, Dangi is not permitted to leave the station without prior authorization from the competent authority.

Background of Harassment Allegations and Previous Complaints

This suspension action comes months after a formal complaint was lodged by the wife of a sub-inspector, who accused Dangi of sexual harassment and misuse of authority. In her complaint dated October 15, 2025, the woman alleged that she first encountered Dangi in 2017 when he was posted as Superintendent of Police in Korba.

She claimed that their interaction, which began on social media, later escalated into harassment. During his subsequent postings, including as Inspector General in various ranges, she alleged that Dangi pressured her to maintain contact through video calls and, at times, summoned her to his official bungalow in the absence of his wife. The complainant further asserted that she possesses digital evidence to substantiate these allegations.

Dangi had previously denied these accusations, countering that false allegations were made against him after he reported being blackmailed to the Director General of Police. However, the government order does not adjudicate on the truth of these allegations; instead, it places the officer under suspension pending the completion of the departmental probe.
