Chennai Police Launch Major Crackdown on Dangerous Road Stunts
In a decisive move to curb reckless driving, the Chennai traffic police have arrested at least 10 youths and seized nine motorcycles during a targeted operation last week. The drive focused on individuals engaging in overspeeding and performing dangerous stunts on city roads during odd hours, highlighting growing concerns over public safety.
Operation Targets Key Locations Following Reports
This police action comes in response to multiple reports of youths staging stunts at prominent locations, including the Moolakadai and Murasoli Maran flyovers. The Kolathur and Pulianthope traffic police teams swiftly registered cases and tracked down the suspects involved in these hazardous activities.
Beyond the arrests, the drive also identified four minors who were participating in these stunts. These young individuals were summoned to the police station along with their parents, where they received formal warnings about the severe consequences of such behavior. This approach underscores the police's emphasis on both enforcement and preventive measures.
Additional Incident Highlights Drunk Driving Dangers
In a separate but related incident reported on March 23, the Adyar traffic police arrested a drunk driver who crashed his car into four two-wheelers near a mall on Rajiv Gandhi Salai on OMR. The driver was subsequently remanded in judicial custody, reinforcing the police's zero-tolerance policy towards impaired driving and its potential to cause serious accidents.
These coordinated efforts by the Chennai traffic police aim to enhance road safety and deter risky behaviors that endanger both participants and the general public. The seizures and arrests send a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated, with authorities committed to maintaining order on the city's streets.
