Chennai Mother-Son Duo Arrested for Extorting 4 Crore Jewellery with Video Threats

In a shocking case of extortion and intimidation, the Vepery police in Chennai have arrested a mother-son duo for allegedly extorting gold and diamond jewellery valued at approximately 4 crores from the wife of a prominent businessman. The accused threatened to upload her personal videos on social media platforms if she did not comply with their demands.

Details of the Extortion Scheme

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sangeetha, aged 53, and her son Ankit, aged 31. According to police reports, Sangeetha moved into an apartment in the Vepery area of Chennai in 2025 along with her two sons, Dileep, aged 34, and Ankit. They resided as tenants in the same building as the victim, a businessman's wife.

Over time, Sangeetha developed a friendship with the victim and introduced her to her sons. The sons, after establishing an intimate relationship with the woman, began demanding money and valuable jewellery from her. When she refused to continue meeting their escalating demands, they resorted to threats, specifically warning that they would upload compromising personal videos of her on various social media sites.

Police Action and Arrests

Fearing the consequences, the victim eventually confided in her husband about the threats. The couple promptly filed a formal complaint with the Vepery all-women police station. Based on their complaint, law enforcement officials launched an investigation and subsequently arrested Sangeetha and Ankit.

However, the whereabouts of the other son, Dileep, remain unknown as he is currently absconding. Police authorities are actively searching for him and have issued alerts to apprehend him in connection with the case.

Background of the Accused

Further inquiries by the police have uncovered a troubling history associated with the accused family. It has been revealed that the family has previously been jailed on two separate occasions. Additionally, several women have lodged formal complaints against Dileep in the past, indicating a pattern of alleged misconduct and criminal behavior.

The case highlights the severe risks of extortion and cyber threats in urban settings, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting to authorities. The Vepery police continue their investigation to gather more evidence and ensure all involved parties are brought to justice.
