The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday filed a charge-sheet against the man accused of attempting to assassinate former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah during a wedding ceremony in Jammu on March 11 this year.
Accused Identified
The accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal, aged 63, is a resident of Jammu. The seven-member SIT was constituted on March 14, just days after the abortive bid on Abdullah's life.
Incident Details
According to the charge-sheet, as Abdullah was leaving the function in the Greater Kailash area, Jamwal allegedly fired at him using a revolver, which was seized soon after the incident. The SIT probe revealed that the accused had developed deep resentment against Abdullah, blaming him for issues related to Kashmiri migrants and their properties.
Pre-Meditated Attack
Citing the accused's conduct, along with material seized and collected during the investigation, the SIT has alleged that Jamwal came to the venue with a pre-meditated mind and a specific intention to target Abdullah. The charge-sheet emphasizes the deliberate nature of the attack.
Current Status
Jamwal is currently lodged in the District Jail in Jammu, where he remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
