Chandigarh Police Arrest Mastermind in Chamanpreet Murder

The Chandigarh Police crime branch announced on Monday that it has cracked the high-profile shooting of Chamanpreet Singh, also known as Cheeni, with the arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the killing. Chamanpreet was shot dead outside a gym parking area in Sector 9 of the city earlier this year, according to crime branch officials.

Amreen, a resident of Sector 35, was arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder, which took place on March 18. The killing in the upscale Sector 9 area left the Tricity shaken. Police stated that the murder was allegedly linked to a property dispute. Amreen, a relative of a senior Punjab police officer, had invested in a property deal in New Chandigarh and later alleged that Chamanpreet had overcharged her and failed to hand over possession, resulting in financial losses.

Details of the Conspiracy

Police said the alleged conspiracy began taking shape in 2025. Amreen, along with her associates, explored ways to resolve the dispute. She allegedly contacted property dealer Harshpreet Singh Bains, who, according to investigators, acted as an intermediary and connected her to suspected gangster Lucky Patial through encrypted communication platforms. Officials said Amreen remained in regular contact with Patial and allegedly agreed to pay money to have Chamanpreet eliminated.

Arrests and Evidence

The investigation gained momentum with the arrest of Harshpreet Singh, aged 27, on April 29 during a naka checking near Maloya. An imported .45-bore pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession. Police said verification revealed that the weapon was registered in the name of the accused woman. A separate case under the Arms Act has been registered.

According to police, Lucky Patial allegedly arranged the logistics for the crime, including weapons, a motorcycle, and funds, and deployed two shooters — Rajan alias Piyush Pehlwan and Pritam — who allegedly carried out the shooting on March 18.

Investigation Progress

With the arrest of the accused and the intermediary, police said they have established links between a local property dispute and organized crime elements. Further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved, and more arrests are likely, officials said.
