Chandigarh Police Unveils 2026 Roadmap: High Conviction, Anti-Drug Drive & Tech Focus
Chandigarh Police 2026 Plan: Conviction, Drugs, Tech

The Chandigarh Police has laid out a comprehensive blueprint for the year 2026, outlining key priority areas designed to strengthen law enforcement, enhance public safety, and align with the vision of the Chandigarh administration and the Government of India. The roadmap was shared by SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, who detailed a multi-pronged strategy focusing on legal efficacy, crime prevention, and community engagement.

A Sharp Focus on Conviction Under New Criminal Laws

A central pillar of the plan is achieving a high conviction rate under the recently implemented criminal laws. The police will conduct focused and time-bound investigations for all cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). To ensure quality, senior officers will regularly supervise these probes for timeliness and legal compliance.

Capacity building is a major priority. Investigating officers will receive extensive training on the new legal provisions, modern evidence handling techniques, and court procedures. This initiative aims to ensure robust case preparation and effective management during trials, ultimately leading to more successful prosecutions.

Zero-Tolerance on Drugs and Street Crime

The police have adopted an uncompromising stance against narcotics. A zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against drug trafficking, peddling, and abuse. Intelligence-based operations will be intensified to identify and dismantle supply chains, with strict action promised against repeat offenders and organised syndicates.

To curb inter-state drug networks, coordination with neighbouring states, Union Territories, and central agencies will be enhanced. For street crimes like snatching and theft, the strategy involves strengthening beat policing and increasing visible police presence in vulnerable zones. This will be supported by crime mapping, strategic patrols, and the effective use of CCTV surveillance and ANPR cameras.

Leveraging Technology and Building Community Trust

Technology is at the heart of the modernization drive. Chandigarh Police will increase the adoption of e-governance platforms, digital investigation tools, and data-driven policing methods. Effective use of national databases like CCTNS, ICJS, NAFIS, and CEIR will be ensured, alongside continuous skill upgrades for personnel to tackle emerging tech challenges.

Reducing police response time is another critical goal, to be achieved by optimizing PCR operations and leveraging technology for real-time monitoring and faster resource dispatch. Furthermore, community policing initiatives will be expanded through stronger outreach programs. Regular interactions with RWAs, market associations, and educational institutions will be held, alongside awareness campaigns on cybercrime, drug abuse, and women's safety.

The plan also emphasizes internal health, focusing on the professionalism, accountability, and welfare of police personnel. This includes maintaining discipline, conducting regular training, and implementing welfare measures to ensure a motivated force. The comprehensive action plan directs all officers to align their work with these priorities, aiming to build greater public trust and make Chandigarh a significantly safer city by 2026.
