CBN Busts Illegal Drug Manufacturing Unit in Chittorgarh, Arrests Accused

The Central Bureau of Narcotics conducted a major raid on Wednesday. They targeted an illegal drug manufacturing unit located in Chittorgarh. Officials arrested one accused person during this operation. They also seized approximately six kilograms of mephedrone from the premises.

Police Personnel Suspended for Negligence in the Case

District police authorities took immediate disciplinary action following the raid. They suspended two personnel who were posted in the same area. Assistant Sub-Inspector Himmat Singh and Constable Ranjeet Puri faced suspension from their duties. Both officers worked at Kila Chowki. Officials stated they failed to share intelligence or alert senior officers about the illegal activities.

Specific Intelligence Led to the Successful Raid

Central agencies received specific intelligence about the illegal operation. This information pointed to an isolated house being used for drug manufacturing. The CBN team acted swiftly on this tip-off. Preliminary investigations confirmed that mephedrone was being produced illegally at the site. High-end laboratory equipment facilitated the production process.

The arrested accused is identified as Sonu Singh, also known as Akbar. He hails from Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh. Officials revealed he operated the clandestine lab with one associate. This associate remains absconding as of now.

Detailed List of Seized Materials from the Raid

Authorities confiscated a substantial amount of materials during the raid. The seized items include:

  • 107 grams of mephedrone powder
  • Approximately 4 kilograms of the drug in crude form
  • About 2 kilograms of alprazolam powder
  • Nearly 200 kilograms of chemicals used for synthesizing mephedrone
  • Special laboratory equipment designed for illegal drug production

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation Details

The arrested accused now faces charges under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Officials emphasized that further investigation is actively underway. Key focus areas include tracing the sources of raw materials. Investigators are also examining financial transactions linked to the operation. Unraveling the broader trafficking network remains a priority.

District SP Manish Tripathi explained the rationale behind suspending the two police personnel. He stated the action aims to set a strong precedent. It serves as a warning to beat officers about the consequences of negligence. This is particularly crucial in border regions vulnerable to drug trafficking activities. Officers must report illegal activities promptly in their assigned areas.
