Navdeep Kaur was last seen alive at approximately 10:30 PM on February 22, 2024. Her family reported her missing the following day, expressing deep concern as it was highly unusual for Kaur to break contact with them. The investigation took a grim turn on July 23, 2024, when Richmond RCMP officers discovered human remains in the Fraser River, specifically in an industrial area at the end of Williams Street.
Authorities worked diligently with the coroner's service, and later that year, the remains were conclusively identified as belonging to Navdeep Kaur. Fong confirmed that Singh's last known location was India and noted he had no criminal record in Canada, with only a very limited history of police interaction.

Immigration lawyer Richard Kurland explained the potential delays, stating, "If the pockets are deep, you buy top legal talent and you get years in a process."
