A devastating road accident near Bakhshiwala village in Punjab's Mansa district resulted in the deaths of three individuals on Wednesday. Among the deceased was a permanent resident of Canada. The tragedy unfolded when an overspeeding light commercial vehicle (LMV) caused a chain of collisions.
Sequence of the Tragic Collision
According to the police, the sequence of events began when the overspeeding LMV, which was heading towards Jakhal, first struck a labourer who was riding a bicycle. The impact of the head-on collision caused the cyclist, identified as Gurmukh Singh, to fall onto the road. The out-of-control vehicle then proceeded to collide with a Bullet motorcycle that was carrying two men.
This secondary impact proved fatal for both riders on the motorcycle. They have been named as Buta Singh (25) and Balkar Singh (26). It was confirmed that Balkar Singh held permanent residency status in Canada. Following the accident, the accused driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Station House Officer (SHO) Mela Singh of the Bareta police station stated that initial investigations clearly point to overspeeding as the primary cause of the accident. Based on the findings, the police have registered a formal case against the absconding driver. Authorities are actively working to locate and apprehend the individual responsible for the triple fatality.
Separate Fatal Attack in Budhlada
In an unrelated but equally tragic incident in the same district, a 20-year-old man was killed in Budhlada town, also on Wednesday. The victim, Jashandeep Singh from Kalhari village, was attacked near the Budhlada bus stand.
Police reports indicate that Jashandeep, who operated a tattoo shop, was with his friend Harwinder Singh when four youths arrived in a car. The assailants attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting serious injuries. He was rushed to the Budhlada civil hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was a result of personal enmity. The police have registered a murder case and are pursuing the suspects identified in the feud. The investigation into this separate homicide is ongoing.
These back-to-back violent incidents in Mansa district have sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over road safety and personal security.
