A shocking murder in the coastal village of Calangute has left the local community in disbelief. A 63-year-old caretaker was allegedly killed by a man sharing his room in the early hours of Thursday. The Calangute police have made a swift arrest, unraveling a tale of deception.
The Grisly Discovery and Initial Claims
Police received a call in the early hours of Thursday about a body lying outside a house in the Porbawaddo area of Calangute. A team rushed to the spot and identified the deceased as Shipad Debnath, a native of Dinajpur in West Bengal. He worked as the caretaker of the house, whose owner lives in Mumbai.
During the initial inquiry, police learned that Debnath lived in a room behind the main house with another man, Kamal Adhikari, who also hailed from his native village. When questioned, Adhikari spun a story. He claimed that four unidentified persons had forced their way into the room in the middle of the night and assaulted both of them.
CCTV Footage Unmasks the Truth
The police, however, were not convinced by Adhikari's account. They decided to examine CCTV footage from the vicinity. The video evidence painted a completely different picture. It clearly showed that no one else had entered or exited the room that night besides Adhikari and Debnath themselves.
Confronted with this irrefutable evidence, Adhikari's story fell apart. A more thorough interrogation followed, leading to a confession.
The Fatal Argument and Arrest
According to the police investigation, Kamal Adhikari had a heated argument with Shipad Debnath in the middle of the night. In a fit of rage, Adhikari allegedly picked up a sharp weapon and struck Debnath on the head. The blow proved fatal, leading to the caretaker's immediate death.
In a bid to cover up his crime, Adhikari then carried the body outside the house and dumped it in the open, before alerting the authorities with his fabricated story of an external attack.
The Calangute police have arrested Kamal Adhikari and are conducting a detailed investigation into the case. They are looking into the precise motive behind the sudden and violent altercation that cost an elderly man his life.
