A shocking incident unfolded in Hyderabad's Meerpet area on Saturday night when a cab driver, employed by a DRDO employee, allegedly dragged a man on his car's bonnet for nearly two kilometers following a heated argument with a father-son duo. The son sustained multiple fractures and severe injuries.
Details of the Incident
According to Meerpet inspector B Shobhan, the victim, Faisal, a school van driver, was riding his bike with his father, SK Jilani, a retired private security guard. Faisal indicated a U-turn about 300 to 400 meters before the designated turning point, which the cab driver, identified as Satyanarayana, objected to. This led to a verbal exchange that quickly escalated into a physical scuffle.
During the altercation, Faisal got stuck near the driver's side window. The cab driver allegedly grabbed Faisal by the hair and continued driving, dragging him along. Fearing for his son's safety, Jilani climbed onto the bonnet of the car. Instead of stopping, Satyanarayana continued driving for nearly two kilometers with Jilani on the bonnet.
During this time, Faisal, who was still clinging to the window, fell off the moving vehicle and sustained multiple injuries, including fractures to a finger on his right leg and injuries to his torso. Jilani managed to hold on throughout and was not injured.
Driver Fled the Scene
Satyanarayana stopped the vehicle after two kilometers and fled the spot. Locals were seen in a video shouting at him to stop, but were unable to intervene in time. The car bore a ‘govt duty' signage on it.
Police teams traced the driver and investigated him. It was revealed that he was a driver for a DRDO employee. However, there was no one in the car's backseat when the incident occurred. Authorities are yet to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Legal Action and Investigation
Satyanarayana, a resident of Singareni colony in Meerpet, has been booked for voluntarily causing hurt and restraining the movement of the bike. Further investigation is ongoing.
