Private Bus Gutted in Flames in Andhra Pradesh, All Passengers Escape Unharmed
A major tragedy was averted early on Saturday morning when a private bus travelling from Bhubaneswar to Nabarangpur caught fire near Ramabhadrapuram in Andhra Pradesh. According to official sources, the incident occurred around 3 am, reportedly triggered by a rear tyre burst. Remarkably, all 37 passengers on board managed to evacuate safely before the vehicle was completely consumed by the flames.
MLA Among Passengers, Confirms Safe Evacuation
Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khillo was among the passengers travelling on the bus at the time of the incident. In a statement, Khillo detailed the harrowing experience, noting that he was on his way from Rasulgarh bus stand in Bhubaneswar to Malkangiri in the passenger bus named Neelakantheswar, commonly known as the Orange Bus.
"Today, while I was travelling, the bus caught fire near Ramabhadrapuram in Andhra Pradesh at around 3 am. The bus was completely gutted in the blaze. Fortunately, we managed to evacuate all the passengers and move them to a safe place," the MLA stated. He further added that after the evacuation, all passengers were shifted to another bus named Asian Smile to continue their journey.
Swift Response Prevents Casualties
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot promptly upon receiving the alert and worked diligently to bring the blaze under control. Their swift action, combined with the quick thinking of the passengers and crew, ensured that no injuries or fatalities were reported despite the bus being reduced to ashes within a short span of time.
The complete destruction of the bus highlights the intensity of the fire, yet the successful evacuation stands as a testament to effective emergency response and passenger cooperation. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the tyre burst and subsequent fire, with further details awaited as the probe continues.
Broader Context of Road Safety
This incident brings renewed attention to road safety measures and vehicle maintenance standards, particularly for long-distance private buses. While the safe evacuation is a positive outcome, it underscores the potential risks associated with such travel and the importance of regular checks to prevent similar occurrences.
Passengers and officials alike have expressed relief that the situation did not escalate into a tragedy, praising the coordinated efforts that led to everyone's safety. The community and local authorities are now focusing on ensuring such incidents are minimized through enhanced safety protocols and awareness campaigns.
