Tragic Death of Teenager Following Volleyball Game Altercation in Trichy Village
A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in a village near Thuraiyur, where a 13-year-old boy lost his life hours after allegedly getting into a physical fight with another student during a volleyball game. The deceased has been identified as Selvam, son of Saravanan, a farmer residing in the Nadutheru area of Nallavannipatti village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pulivalam police.
Details of the Volleyball Game Incident
Selvam was a Class 8 student at the government higher secondary school in Karattampatti. According to police sources, the tragic event occurred on Thursday evening when Selvam was playing volleyball with other children in the locality. During the game, an argument erupted between him and Bharathi, a 15-year-old Class 9 student from the same village.
The altercation escalated quickly, with both boys allegedly assaulting each other with their hands before bystanders intervened and separated them. Following the incident, Selvam returned home and informed his parents about what had transpired.
Sudden Deterioration and Death
After some time, Selvam began vomiting and subsequently lost consciousness. His parents, alarmed by his condition, immediately rushed him to a private hospital in Thuraiyur. Tragically, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival, leaving the family and community in shock.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team led by Jeeyapuram DSP Kathiravan swiftly arrived at the scene. The body was transported to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Pulivalam police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have detained Bharathi for further inquiry. Authorities have emphasized that the precise cause of Selvam's death will only be confirmed after the postmortem report is available.
