Bombay HC allows Rs 11 lakh aid for actor Sudhir Dalvi

In a significant order, the Bombay High Court has permitted a trust to provide substantial financial assistance for the medical treatment of veteran actor Sudhir Dalvi, who is critically ill. The court specifically acknowledged the iconic role played by the 86-year-old actor in shaping public faith.

Court Recognizes Actor's Contribution and Need

A bench comprising Justices Vibha Kankanwadi and Hiten S Venegavkar allowed the Shree Sai Baba Sansthan Trust to donate Rs 11 lakh for Dalvi's treatment. The actor, best known for his titular role in Manoj Kumar's 1977 film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, has been hospitalized with severe sepsis since October 8, 2025.

The bench, in its order, stated, "We are convinced with the fact that the veteran actor is in need of financial help." It further emphasized the rationale behind the aid, noting, "Taking into consideration the faith of people and the role played by the veteran actor, such help can be then said to be on the basis of the acts done or for which Shree Sai Baba spend his life."

Legal Basis and Hospitalization Details

The court based its decision on Section 17(2)(2)(o) of the Shree Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi) Act, 2004, which prescribes promoting noble causes for human well-being. The Sansthan had approached the court seeking permission to grant this financial help.

Advocate Anil S Bajaj, representing the Sansthan, informed the court that an ad-hoc committee had decided to assist Dalvi. The actor is currently admitted at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai and requires funds for his treatment. The Sansthan had received a letter on October 30, 2025, requesting financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh.

An affidavit filed by the Sansthan revealed that prior to his hospitalization, Dalvi was bed-ridden and being cared for at home with the help of two caretakers and a physiotherapist.
