Bijnor Municipal Councillor Arrested in Elaborate Honeytrap and Extortion Racket

In a shocking development from Bijnor, a municipal councillor representing Kiratpur has been apprehended by the police for his alleged involvement in a sophisticated honeytrap and extortion scheme valued at Rs 10 lakh. The arrest, confirmed on Sunday, has sent ripples through the local community and raised serious questions about the integrity of public officials.

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Mohammad Shahvez, is suspected of orchestrating a meticulously planned racket. He allegedly enlisted the assistance of a woman to ensnare victims, using her to lure individuals into compromising situations. Once the targets were vulnerable, Shahvez is accused of secretly recording private photos and videos, which were then used as leverage for blackmail and extortion.

Abhishek Jha, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bijnor, provided further insights into the ongoing investigation. He stated, "The accused is currently under intensive questioning, and we anticipate that more arrests may follow as the probe deepens. A departmental inquiry has been initiated to scrutinize the role of any police personnel allegedly complicit in this scheme. We are committed to taking strict action; no one will be spared if found guilty."

How the Case Unfolded

The case first came to light when a victim bravely approached the authorities, alleging that he was being extorted. During the subsequent interrogation, Shahvez reportedly confessed to the police that he was acquainted with the victim and was aware of his financial stability. This knowledge allegedly prompted him to devise a malicious plan to extract money.

Shahvez purportedly collaborated with a woman from Mandawar, whom he knew, to execute the scheme. He provided her with the victim's mobile number, and on January 8, she initiated contact. Within a short span of time, the two accused allegedly managed to take the victim to a hotel, where they filmed an objectionable video without his consent.

The Extortion Attempt

On January 20, the woman sent the incriminating video to Shahvez. In a brazen move, she then prepared a false rape complaint, which Shahvez allegedly handed over to a personnel stationed at the Kiratpur police station. The victim was subsequently confronted with a copy of this fabricated complaint along with the video, and a demand for Rs 10 lakh was made in exchange for settling the case and preventing further legal action.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Manhunt

In response to these grave allegations, an FIR has been officially registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:

  • Section 3(5): Criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
  • Section 61(2): Criminal conspiracy.
  • Section 308(6): Extortion.

A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the implicated police personnel, who is currently evading capture and is on the run. The authorities are intensifying their efforts to bring all individuals involved to justice and ensure that such corrupt practices are eradicated from the system.
