LJP (RV) Leader Kamlesh Rai Arrested for Minor's Rape in Bihar's Rohtas
Bihar LJP Leader Arrested for Rape of Minor in Rohtas

In a shocking incident from Bihar, a local political leader has been taken into custody over grave allegations of sexually assaulting a minor. The Rohtas district police confirmed the arrest of Kamlesh Rai, the district president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and mukhiya of Karup Panchayat, on charges of abduction and rape.

Arrest and Charges Filed Against Political Figure

Kamlesh Rai was arrested from the Bhainsahi Kala area under the jurisdiction of Sasaram Sadar police station. The arrest followed a detailed investigation triggered by a complaint from the minor victim's mother. Police have booked Rai under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A crucial medical examination of the survivor has been conducted, and authorities state that the report confirms the commission of rape. Rai is currently in judicial custody.

Timeline of the Crime and Police Investigation

The case came to light when the minor's mother approached the police on November 12, reporting that her daughter had been missing for seven days since November 5. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the girl had left home for coaching classes around 2:43 PM on November 5 but never returned. Upon checking with the coaching centre, the family allegedly discovered she had not attended class that day.

The FIR reveals disturbing details of a prior association. It states that the girl was in regular phone contact with Kamlesh Rai, who had frequently visited their home. The document further alleges that Rai had previously "lured away" the minor on September 11. When the family confronted him at that time, he reportedly summoned the girl to the police station. "We took her home with us... She told us that she had gone at Rai's instructions," the mother's complaint notes. Adding weight to the allegations, a mobile phone recovered from the girl was found to have a SIM card registered in Rai's name.

Party Action and Ongoing Legal Process

The political party moved swiftly to distance itself from the accused following the allegations. Prof. (Dr.) Vineet Singh, a spokesperson for the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), stated that Rai was expelled from the party last month, pending the investigation's outcome. The mother's complaint also expressed fears that Rai might cause physical harm to her daughter or even sell her for money.

Acting on the formal complaint, the police successfully traced the minor. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kumar Vaibhav explained that after the medical examination, sections of the POCSO Act were invoked based on the medical report's findings. The case underscores the severe legal repercussions for crimes against minors and highlights the ongoing scrutiny of individuals in positions of power and trust.
