Bhubaneswar Man Stabs Friend Over Remark About Wife

Bhubaneswar: Police in Info Valley arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing his friend after being enraged by offensive remarks the latter reportedly made about his wife in front of others. The incident occurred on Monday near a pond in the Madanpur area on the city's outskirts.

Victim and Accused Identified

The injured victim, Ranjan Kumar Swain (29), is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The accused has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra (39). According to police, the two were among a group of friends who had organized a feast at the location.

Sequence of Events

Swain told police that while Mohapatra was busy cooking, his phone rang. "His phone was near us. When I saw his wife's name on the screen and mentioned it, he became angry and attacked me with a knife," Swain alleged. Swain was initially rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he was treated. "Though he is stable and out of danger, he later shifted himself to a private hospital," a police officer said.

Accused's Defense

During interrogation, Mohapatra claimed that Swain had made inappropriate remarks about his wife in front of others after speaking with her over the phone, which provoked the assault. Police are investigating the matter further.

This incident highlights the dangers of escalating conflicts over personal remarks. Authorities urge citizens to resolve disputes amicably and avoid violence.
