Bhopal Train Mishap: Youth Critically Injured After Being Dragged by Moving Express
A young man's reckless attempt to board a moving train at Bhopal Junction Railway Station escalated into a life-threatening crisis, leaving him with critical injuries after he became trapped and dragged between the speeding train and the platform edge. The incident, which occurred late on March 31, has sparked renewed concerns over railway safety protocols.
The Harrowing CCTV Footage
The terrifying 13-second CCTV footage, captured on the night of March 31 and surfaced on April 3, vividly depicts the sequence of events on Platform Number 6. The video, which went viral on social media by Friday, shows the youth, estimated to be 25 or 26 years old and possibly hailing from Bihar, sprinting alongside the 19304 Bhopal-Indore Express as it sped through the station around 11:30pm.
In a split second, the man collided with a coach door, becoming wedged between the moving train and the platform. Over the next five seconds, he was violently spun around four or five times before being dragged underneath the train, sustaining severe injuries including a broken arm and a serious head wound.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Bystanders quickly alerted authorities, and the victim was rushed to Hamidia Hospital, where he remains under treatment. No identification documents were found on him, and his mobile phone was shattered beyond use, complicating efforts to confirm his identity.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has launched a preliminary probe into the incident. SP (GRP) Rahul Lodha stated, "There are no indications of foul play or conspiracy. This appears to be a case of the young man's negligence in attempting to board a moving train. Further details will be shared once the victim provides us with information."
Railway Safety Concerns and Official Statements
Railway safety experts have reiterated calls for stricter enforcement against boarding moving trains, a common peril at busy stations. The GRP urges passengers to wait for trains to halt completely to avoid such tragedies.
PRO of the Bhopal railway division, Nawal Agarwal, commented, "Such incidents are unfortunate. We regularly inform passengers to follow safety precautions at the platform. We have prepared several videos also in this regard to educate the public."
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with boarding moving trains, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and public awareness campaigns to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
