A tragic road accident at the Happy Bar junction in Assagao on Monday resulted in the death of a 65-year-old tourist from Bhopal. The incident occurred when a speeding SUV allegedly crashed into the rear of his vehicle, causing severe impact that proved fatal at the scene.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The deceased has been identified as Bhagat Ram Sharma, who was traveling with family members in a Hyundai i20 hatchback. According to police reports, the collision was forceful, leading to Sharma's immediate death. Two other occupants of the i20 sustained minor injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where their condition is now reported as stable. Remarkably, a five-month-old infant also present in the vehicle escaped unharmed but has been kept under medical observation as a precautionary measure.

Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that occupants of the rented Mahindra Thar SUV attempted to switch seats immediately following the crash. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show a male occupant of the Thar speaking on the phone, with audible words including, “Papa, I was at the intersection…”. The footage also displays significant damage to both vehicles, with one side of the hatchback completely crushed. In the same video, three women can be seen seated in the back of the SUV.
