Naan Mudhalvan University Centre Launched at Bharathiar University in Coimbatore
A Naan Mudhalvan University Operational Centre (NMUOC) was officially inaugurated at Bharathiar University in Coimbatore on Tuesday. This centre is established to implement, monitor, and coordinate the Naan Mudhalvan scheme across the district, marking a significant step in enhancing educational opportunities for students.
Overview of the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme
The Naan Mudhalvan scheme, launched on March 1, 2022, aims to provide integrated skill training programs to students in higher education institutions across Tamil Nadu. This includes engineering, arts and science, polytechnic, and ITI institutions, all without imposing any financial burden on the students. The training is delivered through a collaborative effort involving academicians, industry experts, mentors, and administrators, with the primary goal of boosting students' employability skills.
Establishment and Funding of NMUOCs
As part of this initiative, NMUOCs have been set up at 10 state arts and science universities and one technical university, with a total investment of Rs 1.10 crore. The inauguration of these centres was conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin via video conferencing from Chennai, highlighting the government's commitment to skill development.

At the event held at Bharathiar University, key dignitaries participated in the ceremonial lamp lighting. Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P Rajkumar and District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar were present, along with Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran and Bharathiar University Naan Mudhalvan Operational Centre Officer V Vimala. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative in the local community.
Role and Functions of the NMUOC
V Kanimozhi, the District Programme Manager for Tamil Nadu Skill Development Naan Mudhalvan, explained that the NMUOC will serve as a nodal centre to streamline the implementation of the scheme. Its key functions include:
- Integrating industry-relevant skill development courses with university curricula.
- Facilitating internships and employment opportunities for students.
- Monitoring admissions, skill certification, and placement statistics to ensure effective outcomes.
This centre is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, thereby preparing students for successful careers.
