Bhopal Nurse Accused of Rape After False Marriage Promise to Colleague
Bhopal: Nurse booked for rape on false marriage promise

Police in Bhopal have taken serious action against a male nurse following a distressing complaint from a female colleague. The Gautam Nagar police station registered a formal rape case on Sunday after the woman accused him of sexual exploitation under the false pretext of marriage and a committed live-in relationship.

From Professional Acquaintance to Romantic Betrayal

The survivor, a 25-year-old nurse hailing from a neighbouring district and employed at a private hospital, revealed that her connection with the accused began professionally. Over time, this association evolved into a romantic relationship approximately three years ago. Trusting his intentions, she allowed the relationship to deepen based on his assurances.

The situation took a significant turn in January 2021. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused nurse visited the woman's residence. It was during this visit that he established a physical relationship with her, having promised repeatedly to marry her. Firm in her belief in his commitment, the woman agreed to move in with him, and the two began sharing a rented accommodation in Bhopal.

A Secret Marriage and Broken Promises

The living arrangement continued until the survivor secured a job opportunity in another city and had to relocate temporarily. This physical separation proved to be the catalyst for betrayal. During her absence, the accused's family arranged his marriage to another woman. Shockingly, he went through with this wedding secretly, deliberately keeping his live-in partner in the dark.

Upon eventually discovering the truth, the devastated woman returned to Bhopal and confronted the accused. Faced with her anguish, he initially tried to placate her. He allegedly made fresh promises, claiming he would divorce his new wife to ultimately marry her as originally pledged. However, these assurances proved to be empty. The accused soon reneged on his word completely and severed all contact, cutting off all ties with the survivor.

Legal Repercussions and Police Action

Left with no recourse, the nurse approached the Gautam Nagar police, leading to the registration of a formal case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape. The police have launched an investigation based on her detailed complaint, which outlines a three-year period of alleged deception and exploitation.

This case highlights the serious legal implications of establishing a physical relationship under false pretences. The law in India recognizes that consent obtained through a fraudulent promise of marriage can be vitiated, making such acts punishable. The Bhopal police are now tasked with uncovering the full sequence of events as the legal process begins.
