Police in Bhagalpur have initiated a detailed investigation into the horrific and brutal killing of a 28-year-old weaver, whose mutilated remains were discovered last weekend. The victim, identified as Abhishek Kumar Maskan, was reported missing by his family before his body, cut into pieces, was recovered from a river stream.
Gruesome Discovery in Shahpur Diara
The dismembered body of Abhishek Kumar Maskan was found on Saturday in the Shahpur Diara area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nathnagar police station. According to police officials, the remains were discovered in a gruesome state: the head and legs were missing, and the body was found in three pieces.
Investigators revealed that the body had been tied with a plastic rope, wrapped in a jacket, and then concealed inside a plastic bag that was filled with sand and bricks, apparently to weigh it down. The preliminary investigation suggests that Abhishek was first shot dead, then chopped into pieces with a sharp knife, before the perpetrators dumped the bag into the river stream.
Financial Dispute Emerges as Key Motive
Police have swiftly detained three young individuals for questioning in connection with the murder. The detained youths have been named as Radhe, Ritik, and Ayush. Authorities suspect that a financial dispute was the primary motive behind this heinous crime.
Elaborating on the possible motive, police stated that the detained individuals worked with the victim. It is alleged that Abhishek had purchased a mobile phone for Radhe on an installment plan, acting as his guarantor. When Radhe failed to pay the installments, the shop owner began pressuring Abhishek for the money. In response, Abhishek reportedly took the phone back from Radhe. This act is believed to have triggered the conspiracy that led to his murder.
Bhagalpur SP (City) Subhank Mishra confirmed the developments, stating, “The detained youths have provided vital information and are being interrogated to get some more clues.”
A Family's Anguish and the Search for Answers
The victim's family had been searching for him since he left home on December 23. Abhishek had told his family he would return soon, but never did. His father, Dharmendra Das, grew suspicious when repeated calls to his son's phone went unanswered. The family officially lodged a missing person's report with the police on December 24.
Maternal uncle Santosh Das recounted that after Abhishek left home, his phone was eventually switched off, deepening their fears. The tragedy has left a young family shattered; Abhishek was married and is survived by his one-year-old son.
Police are continuing their interrogation of the detained suspects to uncover the full sequence of events and identify any other individuals who may have been involved in the planning and execution of this brutal crime. The investigation remains active as officers work to piece together the final moments of the young weaver's life.
