In a distressing incident in Bengaluru, miscreants broke into the home of a 73-year-old woman in BEML Layout and made off with gold ornaments and cash valued at over Rs 13 lakh. The theft occurred while the elderly resident was attending her routine evening yoga class, highlighting a calculated crime that exploited her daily schedule.
Details of the Burglary in BEML Layout
The senior citizen, who lives alone, had locked her house at 4:25 PM on March 31 before heading to a yoga session at the Ganesh Temple premises in Sharadha Colony. Upon returning around 6 PM, she discovered the front door ajar and immediately checked inside to find her valuables missing.
The stolen items included:
- 130 grams of gold ornaments, such as bangles, chains, and rings
- A pearl necklace worth Rs 13 lakh
- Rs 25,000 in cash
Her daughter reported the incident to the police, confirming that the burglary took place between 4:25 PM and 6 PM. This timeline suggests the thieves acted swiftly during the woman's absence.
Police Suspect Premeditated Crime Based on Routine
Authorities investigating the case suspect that the perpetrators were well-aware of the woman's daily habits. By targeting her during her yoga class, they took advantage of a predictable window of opportunity to execute the burglary without detection.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of elderly individuals living alone in urban areas, especially when their routines are easily observable. Police are urging residents to enhance security measures and remain vigilant against such premeditated crimes.
The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on gathering evidence and identifying the suspects involved in this high-value theft.
