Bengaluru Road Rage Horror: SUV Driver Arrested After Dragging Man 1 km on Bonnet
In a shocking incident of road rage that has sent shockwaves across Bengaluru, a 52-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly drove his SUV for over a kilometer with a goods vehicle driver clinging desperately to the bonnet. The terrifying episode, captured on dashcam and widely shared online, unfolded near HAL Road in the city.
Sequence of Events: From Minor Collision to Terrifying Ordeal
According to Bengaluru police, the incident began with a minor collision between a goods vehicle and the SUV near Trinity Junction at the start of Old Airport Road around 12:45 pm. What started as a small accident quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
The police investigation revealed that Suresh, identified as the SUV driver and a resident of Pulakeshi Nagar, was driving behind the goods vehicle when he began honking repeatedly and abusing the occupants. This led to a verbal altercation that turned physical further down the road near the CB Junction signal.
In his detailed complaint to the Halasuru police, Nanjunda—the goods vehicle driver who also runs a flower business—described the harrowing experience. "I came near the bonnet of the vehicle to stop it. He drove the vehicle forward with the intention of killing me. Fearing for my life, I fell on the bonnet and held the wipers. No matter how loudly I shouted to stop the vehicle, he did not stop," Nanjunda stated.
The Kilometer-Long Terror Ride
Despite bystanders pleading with the driver to stop, Suresh continued driving at high speed from the CB Junction signal to ASC Centre College—a distance exceeding one kilometer—with Nanjunda clinging to the bonnet and shouting for help. The vehicle was eventually halted only after other motorists blocked the road to intervene.
Police officials confirmed that Suresh's wife was inside the vehicle during the incident, and the SUV is registered in her name. During verification, authorities discovered that Suresh is a repeat offender with multiple cases related to rash driving and violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Legal Action and Investigation
The Halasuru police have registered a case under serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 109(1) for attempt to murder and Section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. Suresh was arrested the same day, and the vehicle has been seized as evidence.
Nanjunda explained that he was returning from Hoskote after purchasing flowers in his vehicle, which was being driven by his nephew Manoj at the time of the initial altercation. The police have documented the entire sequence of events and are conducting further investigation into the matter.
The viral video of the incident has sparked outrage among citizens, highlighting concerns about road safety and aggressive driving behavior in the city. Authorities have emphasized that such reckless actions will be dealt with strictly under the law.
