Tragic Early Morning Accident Claims Two Lives on Bengaluru Highway
In a devastating incident, two men lost their lives in a fatal accident on National Highway 44 near Vidyashilpa Cross in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, early this morning. The victims have been identified as Siddartha, aged 18, and Shanthappa Metri, aged 35. Both were residents of Allalsandra and originally hailed from Sedam in Kalaburagi district, working as labourers to support their families.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the two labourers had just returned from Hyderabad via a private bus. They disembarked near Vidyashilpa Cross, an area that lacks a designated bus stop, making it an unauthorised and hazardous point for passengers to alight. While attempting to cross the busy highway, they were struck by a high-speed KTM Duke motorcycle that was heading towards Devanahalli.
The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in fatal injuries for both Siddartha and Shanthappa Metri. Tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene, leaving their communities in mourning.
Investigation Reveals Multiple Lapses
The rider of the motorcycle, Altaf Pasha, aged 19 and a resident of Mathikere, sustained fractures in the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment. Police investigations have uncovered several alarming details. It is suspected that Altaf Pasha was racing with friends at the time of the incident. Furthermore, he had borrowed the bike and did not possess a valid driving licence, raising serious questions about road safety and enforcement.
In response to the tragedy, police have filed a comprehensive complaint against multiple parties. Charges have been levied against the rider, Altaf Pasha, for reckless driving and operating a vehicle without proper authorization. Additionally, the driver of the private bus faces allegations for stopping at an unauthorised location, thereby endangering passengers. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also been implicated for failing to install median barriers along the stretch, a critical safety measure that could have prevented such accidents.
