Chaos erupted at the Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences in Bengaluru's KS Layout area on Wednesday morning following a chilling bomb threat received via email. The alarming message prompted a swift and large-scale response from law enforcement, leading to a tense hours-long security operation on the campus.
Details of the Threatening Email
The college authorities were thrown into alert mode after receiving an email that contained a specific threat. The sender stated that "men will walk into the college premises after 12.30pm and carry out explosions." The email provided a bizarre and concerning justification for the threat, linking it to grievances against the Tamil Nadu police.
It claimed that recommendations made by a committee for police betterment way back in 1979 were ignored and that police personnel were demeaned by being made to wash others' clothes. "Therefore, our men will come to Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences at 12.30pm and carry out explosions," the email read.
Swift Police Response and Campus Search
Upon receiving the alert from the college management, the jurisdictional KS Layout police acted immediately. A team, accompanied by an anti-sabotage squad, reached the college premises by 9 am. A thorough and meticulous search operation was launched across the campus to ensure student and staff safety.
The security sweep continued for over four hours, concluding at around 1.30 pm. With the stated deadline of 12:30 pm passing without incident and no suspicious items found, officials remained vigilant on-site.
Threat Declared a Hoax
After monitoring the situation past the threatened time, the police declared the email a malicious hoax. "We waited in the college till 2pm and then declared the email to be a hoax," confirmed an investigating officer involved in the case. The incident caused significant disruption and anxiety but ultimately ended without any explosive devices being found or any violence occurring.
Authorities are now investigating the origin of the threatening email to identify and apprehend the individual or group responsible for creating panic. The incident highlights the challenges educational institutions and police face in dealing with such threats, which require serious response regardless of their eventual credibility.
