According to police sources, the duo fired at a police party early on Tuesday. Police officers retaliated in self-defense. A bullet struck one of the accused, identified as Akram Khan, in his leg. Authorities successfully overpowered the other accused, Pardeep Singh. Police recovered a weapon from the suspects at the scene.

Police Investigation and Background

Barnala SSP Sarfaraz Alam provided further context. Police investigated a firing incident from the night of January 11. Their inquiry revealed that two small-time rival groups were involved in inter-group rivalry. Multiple police teams conducted raids at suspected locations of the accused and their accomplices.

On Tuesday morning, police teams continued follow-up operations. They came face-to-face with the accused near the bypass. The suspects opened fire on the police party. Police responded with fire in self-defense, leading to a brief exchange.

Aftermath and Ongoing Efforts

During the encounter, Akram Khan sustained a gunshot injury. Both Akram Khan and Pradeep Singh were taken into police custody. The injured accused received medical attention at Civil Hospital in Barnala.

Police officials stated that further searches are currently in progress. Their goal is to round up any remaining accused individuals connected to the case.
