Assam Jailbreak: Three Recaptured, One Fugitive Remains

Three Prisoners Recaptured Within Hours of Daring Assam Jailbreak

In a dramatic turn of events following Wednesday's audacious jailbreak from Sadiya District Jail in Assam's Tinsukia district, police authorities have confirmed the successful recapture of three out of the four escaped prisoners within just five hours of their escape. The swift police operation has brought partial relief, though one fugitive remains at large, prompting ongoing intensive search operations across the region.

The Daring Escape and Immediate Aftermath

The four inmates — identified as Nabin Buragohain, Amlanjyoti Chetia, Sasadhar Deori, and Huntu Sonowal — executed their brazen escape on February 4th by scaling the jail's fortified walls using an improvised rope crafted from tied clothing materials. The jail, situated in the Chapakhowa area of Sadiya, has come under intense scrutiny following this significant security breach that enabled all four prisoners to flee simultaneously.

Sadiya additional superintendent of police (headquarters) Arunima Bhuyan provided detailed insights into the recapture operation during a briefing on Thursday. "We received information from the jailer around 2 pm that four prisoners had escaped from the jail. Our teams immediately rushed to the jail premises and launched a comprehensive operation," she stated.

"Within five hours of the escape, we successfully apprehended three of the fugitives — Huntu, Nabin, and Amlanjyoti. Our teams worked with remarkable precision and coordination to track them down quickly. However, Sasadhar remains untraceable at this point, but we are confident of nabbing him very soon," Bhuyan added, emphasizing the police department's determination to locate the remaining escapee.

Security Lapses and Investigation Initiated

The ASP confirmed that a thorough departmental inquiry has been launched to identify security deficiencies and determine exactly how the prisoners managed to execute their elaborate escape plan. "We are examining all aspects of the incident — from surveillance protocols to guard deployment patterns. We need to find out how four inmates could prepare a rope, scale the tall walls, and escape without detection. This points to serious gaps that must be addressed immediately," she emphasized.

The escape incident has generated considerable alarm throughout the area, with local residents expressing concerns about security measures at what is supposed to be a highly secure correctional facility. The fact that prisoners apparently had sufficient time to collect clothing materials, fashion a functional rope, and execute their plan suggests the escape was meticulously planned over several days, raising questions about prison monitoring systems.

Administrative Response and Ongoing Developments

The Tinsukia district administration has ordered a comprehensive probe into the security breach, though no disciplinary action has been taken against jail staff members at this preliminary stage. The investigation aims to uncover systemic failures and implement corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police authorities have intensified search operations across multiple locations, utilizing both ground teams and technological resources to locate the remaining fugitive. The incident has highlighted the need for enhanced security protocols and regular audits of correctional facilities across the region.

Local communities remain vigilant as law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to ensure public safety and restore confidence in the prison system's security framework.
