In a shocking incident of late-night violence, a group of armed youths attacked a grocery store in Mohali, seriously injuring an employee and assaulting the owner who tried to intervene. The Sohana police have registered a case against eight unidentified individuals and launched a manhunt.
Sequence of Events: From Ruckus to Violent Assault
The incident unfolded in the early hours of January 2, around 12:15 am, at the 24×7 Store, SCO-39, in Sector 89-D, Mohali. According to the victim, Sahil Kumar (19), a resident of Jagraon currently staying in the same sector, two youths were initially creating a disturbance outside the store. When Kumar asked them to move aside, they began verbally abusing him.
The situation escalated rapidly when one of the youths made a phone call. Shortly after, six more individuals arrived in a white Bolero vehicle without a registration number. All of them were armed with weapons, likely iron rods or similar objects.
The Attack and Robbery
The group of eight surrounded Sahil Kumar and launched a brutal assault. They attacked him with iron weapons, focusing blows on his head. In addition to the physical violence, the assailants also robbed him, snatching his wallet which contained approximately Rs 2,000 in cash and his Aadhaar card.
Hearing the commotion, the store owner, Gagandeep Singh, rushed to Kumar's aid. However, the attackers turned on him as well, assaulting him when he tried to rescue his employee. The violence only subsided when nearby residents began gathering at the spot. Before fleeing, the assailants threatened to kill both victims.
Police Action and Investigation
The injured employee, Sahil Kumar, was promptly admitted to the Civil Hospital in Phase-6, Mohali, for treatment. Based on his official statement and the subsequent medical report, the Sohana police took swift action.
Law enforcement officials have registered a comprehensive case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), 304, 190, and 191(3). A police spokesperson stated that efforts are underway to identify the attackers using available evidence and witness accounts, assuring the public that arrests will be made soon. The investigation is actively pursuing leads, including the description of the unmarked white Bolero used by the accused.
