AP Crime Falls 6.17% in 2025; Key Stats Revealed

Vijayawada witnessed a significant announcement as the Andhra Pradesh police unveiled the annual crime data for 2025, showcasing a marked improvement in the state's law and order situation. Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta presented the figures, revealing a 6.17% decline in overall registered crimes, with total cases dropping from 1,10,193 in 2024 to 1,03,397 in 2025.

Sharp Declines in Violent and Social Crimes

The data highlighted substantial reductions in several critical crime categories. Incidents of rioting saw a dramatic fall of 53.88%, plummeting from 534 to just 246 cases. Crimes targeting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes also registered a significant drop of 24.32%, decreasing from 2,402 to 1,818 cases.

Murder cases declined by 9.8% (from 856 to 772), and kidnapping cases fell by 16%. However, attempts to murder saw an 11.6% increase, reaching 1,566 cases. Property crimes showed a marginal reduction of 1.27%.

Women's Safety and Cybercrime: A Mixed Picture

Crimes against women decreased by 3.8%, with total cases falling from 16,994 to 16,347. Within this category, the most encouraging figures came from a 62.7% plunge in rape and gang rape cases, which dropped from 14 to 5. Cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act also reduced by 11.4%.

The police secured 510 convictions in crimes against women and POCSO cases, including 7 death sentences and 126 life imprisonments. The Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) dramatically improved its monitoring efficiency from 48% to 78.47%.

In the cyber realm, while complaints remained high at 62,414, there was a positive trend. The total financial loss from cyber fraud reduced by 16.3%, from Rs 974 crore in 2024 to Rs 815 crore in 2025. Police successfully froze Rs 98 crore in fraudulent transactions and refunded Rs 3 crore to victims.

Enhanced Policing, Convictions, and Infrastructure

Operational efficiency saw notable improvements. The emergency response time for the 112 service was slashed by 50%, reaching an average of 15.53 minutes, better than the national average. The property crime detection rate stood at an impressive 56%, with a 55% recovery rate, far exceeding the national average of 33.8%.

The overall conviction rate in the state jumped to 50.1% in 2025 from 43.5% the previous year. Lok Adalats disposed of 92,423 cases, and forensic pendency was reduced to just 1,684 cases with a 93% disposal rate.

On the narcotics front, NDPS cases dropped by 7.9%. Police conducted a massive crackdown, destroying 99,836 kg of ganja and 96.45 litres of hashish oil under the EAGLE framework and attaching assets worth Rs 9.11 crore.

The report also outlined substantial investments in police welfare and infrastructure. Over Rs 53 crore was spent on welfare, Rs 58.21 crore on cashless medical treatment, and more than Rs 200 crore on technology, forensic upgrades, and training, underscoring a holistic approach to modernizing the force.
