AMU Teacher Murder: UP Police Arrests Key Accused in Revenge Killing Case
AMU teacher murder: UP Police arrests key accused

In a significant breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a key suspect in the shocking murder of a 45-year-old teacher on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus. The arrest sheds light on a chilling revenge plot that led to the daylight killing.

The Arrest and the Motive

On Thursday, the Aligarh police apprehended 32-year-old Salman Quereshi for his alleged central role in the murder of teacher Rao Danish Ali. According to police officials, the brutal shooting on December 24, 2025, was an act of "revenge."

Investigations reveal that Quereshi suspected the victim of being a police informer in a separate 2018 murder case. In that earlier incident, a man named Azmat was killed, leading to the imprisonment of Quereshi's associates and two shooters, Fahad and Yasir.

Chilling Planning and Execution

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aligarh, Neeraj Jadaun, detailed the meticulously planned crime. "On December 23, Salman called his associates. Fahad and Yasir, both brothers originally from Nausa in Aligarh but living in Delhi, arrived with a pistol and stayed at Salman's house," the SSP stated.

The plan unfolded the next day. A scooter was parked at a pre-decided location. Salman then dropped Fahad and Yasir near Medical Road in his car. The two shooters intercepted Ali while he was on an evening walk with friends near the Maulana Azad Library canteen inside the AMU campus and shot him dead.

After committing the murder, the assailants fled on the parked scooter, abandoned it in a secluded area, and all three accused, including Salman, escaped to Delhi to avoid capture. Police confirmed that Salman, who lives in the same locality as the slain teacher, was acquainted with him.

Ongoing Investigation and Aftermath

The police are also investigating the involvement of Zubair, described as a prime accused with a substantial criminal history. An FIR was registered at Aligarh's Civil Lines police station on the complaint of the teacher's brother, Dr. Rao Faraz. The case has been filed under BNS sections 103(1) for murder and 109(1) for attempt to murder.

Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School on the AMU campus, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He is survived by his wife, two children, and retired parents, who also served at the university. The murder has sent shockwaves through the academic community in Aligarh, raising serious concerns about safety and criminal vendettas.
