Amritsar Police Achieve Major Success in Recovering Lost Mobile Phones
In a significant crackdown on lost and stolen mobile devices, the Amritsar (Rural) police have successfully traced and returned 600 lost mobile phones with a total market value of Rs 1.20 crore over the past three months. This initiative has brought immense relief to residents who had misplaced their valuable devices.
Special Drive and CEIR Help Desk Implementation
According to Amritsar (Rural) SSP Sohail Qasim Mir, a special drive was launched with the primary objective of assisting residents in recovering their lost mobile phones. To streamline the process, a dedicated Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Help Desk Team was established at the district level. This team operates under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Aditya Wariar, who serves as the nodal officer for the initiative.
SSP Mir highlighted that in the last two months alone, the team managed to trace 300 lost mobile phones. Among these recovered devices were 13 expensive iPhones, contributing to a combined market value of approximately Rs 60 lakh. The phones were traced from various locations across Punjab as well as other states in India, showcasing the extensive reach of the police efforts.
Recovery and Handover Ceremony
At a special program organized on Friday, the police formally handed over the recovered cellphones to their rightful owners. With this latest recovery, the cumulative total for the past three months has reached 600 phones worth around Rs 1.20 crore. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the CEIR system and the diligent work of the police team.
SSP Mir expressed appreciation for the CEIR Help Desk team, which includes Head Constable Jatinder Singh, IT Officer Jaskaran Singh, IT Officer Bhuvan Sharma, and Constable Mandeep Singh. He commended their tireless efforts, noting that they worked day and night to trace the missing devices, demonstrating a strong commitment to public service.
Public Appeal and Contact Information
The police have issued an appeal to the public, urging anyone who loses a mobile phone to take immediate action. Residents are advised to:
- Lodge a report at their nearest Saanjh Kendra or police station.
- Contact the CEIR Help Desk located at the District Police Office, Amritsar Rural.
- Call the helpline number at 94170-84169.

This proactive approach aims to expedite the recovery process and ensure that lost devices are returned as quickly as possible.
Resident Reactions and Future Implications
Residents who received their lost mobile phones expressed happiness and gratitude for getting their devices back. This initiative not only enhances public trust in law enforcement but also sets a precedent for other districts to adopt similar measures. The use of technology like the CEIR system is proving to be a game-changer in combating mobile phone theft and loss, promoting digital security and public safety across the region.
