Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a crucial national security platform on Friday. The National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) will be launched at the NSG Garrison in Manesar, near Gurugram, in a ceremony that Shah will address virtually.
What is the NIDMS Platform?
Developed by the National Security Guard's (NSG) National Bomb Data Centre, NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital repository. Its primary function is the systematic collection, collation, and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This platform is designed to be a single source of truth for IED-related incidents, trends, and technical specifications, aiding significantly in post-blast forensic investigations and analytics.
An NSG spokesperson explained that the system aims to foster a common, data-driven understanding of IED threats among all security stakeholders. This includes various state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other central investigative agencies.
