Ambala Police Crack Down on Theft with Major Gang Arrest

Ambala Police have made a significant breakthrough in their campaign against theft, robbery, and snatching incidents. They arrested five members of a criminal gang involved in a major burglary at a jewellery shop in Ambala Cantonment. The police recovered about 8 kilograms of stolen silver, an illegal firearm, live cartridges, and other items from the accused.

Details of the Arrest and Investigation

Ambala Cantonment SHO Inspector Surender Singh provided details about the operation. The arrests relate to a theft case registered on December 18, 2025. A police team led by Inspector Surender Singh, along with SI Pravesh Kumar, SI Hari Om, and other personnel, carried out the operation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Madan alias Bhadda Singh, Babu, Son Chidiya, and Fosalli. They are residents of village Isapur, Tehsil Tilhar, district Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, they were living in slum areas of Phase-11, Mohali in Punjab. Another accused, Birju, is a resident of village Milkhia in district Shahjahanpur, UP. He was presently living in a slum near the vegetable market in Karnal, Haryana.

Complaint and Police Action

Inspector Surender Singh stated that the complainant, Prof Mohit Verma, proprietor of Laxman Dass Jewellers in Sarafa Bazaar, Ambala Cantonment, reported the crime. Unknown persons broke into his shop on the night of December 18, 2025. They stole gold and silver jewellery along with cash.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. The police team worked tirelessly for nearly a month. They analysed CCTV footage and gathered intelligence across multiple states to track the gang.

Tip-off and Swift Police Raid

On January 16, 2026, the team received specific information. Some of the accused involved in the Ambala Cantonment theft were gathering at Shahpur Mandi, Ambala Cantonment. They were planning to carry out another major crime.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police raided the spot. They apprehended all five accused. During the operation, police recovered 8 kg of silver, valued at approximately Rs 23 lakh. They also seized one illegal country-made pistol and two live cartridges, besides other items.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigation

The accused were produced before a court, and police obtained remand. During the remand period, they are being interrogated in depth. Police aim to identify other associates and unearth their involvement in additional theft cases.

Police said that the accused have a prior criminal record. Several theft cases are already registered against them. Following the recovery of the illegal weapon and ammunition, relevant sections of the Arms Act have been added to the case. Further investigation is currently underway.
