In a swift operation, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two women and recovered stolen gold jewellery belonging to an NRI woman who had arrived from the United States to attend a religious programme in Gujarat. The arrests were made within hours of the theft, and the entire haul of ornaments was successfully recovered, according to police officials.
Details of the Theft and Complaint
The complainant, identified as Saryuben, is an Indian-origin resident of the US who came to Ahmedabad with her family to participate in a "satsang" or religious gathering. She was carrying ancestral gold jewellery that she intended to take to a jeweller to be remodelled into new ornaments for her son and daughter-in-law. The theft occurred while she was travelling by bus from Adalaj Trimandir, following which a formal complaint was registered at the Satellite police station.
Investigation and Arrests
Acting promptly on the complaint, investigators launched a probe utilizing technical inputs and local intelligence to trace the suspects. Two women were detained and subsequently arrested, with the stolen jewellery recovered intact. The arrested individuals have been named as Ramila Parmar (28), a resident of Vadaj, and Sarla Ganva (34), a resident of Nirnaynagar.
According to police sources, the accused are residents of Dahod district who had come to Ahmedabad under the pretext of seeking manual labour work. Investigators revealed that the women used children as a cover to avoid suspicion and to navigate easily through crowded public spaces while targeting unsuspecting passengers.

The recovered items include a significant amount of gold jewellery, specifically:
- Five gold coins weighing 20 grams each
- One gold coin weighing 2.5 grams
