Patel hails from Banswara district in Rajasthan. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that two others, including a minor, were involved in the incident.

Police disclosed that the murder stemmed from an argument over a trivial matter. According to their findings, Patel had hosted a liquor party with the other two accused. The victim, who was known to them, was called to drop them home.
