Ahmedabad man assaulted by 4 neighbours in booze dispute

A shocking incident of neighbourhood violence has been reported from Ahmedabad, where a 36-year-old man was severely beaten by four of his neighbours. The attack, which took place on Sunday evening, stemmed from a dispute over the accused consuming alcohol inside the complainant's father's autorickshaw.

The Root of the Conflict: A Previous Dispute

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by Madhavpura police on Monday, the entire episode has its origins in an earlier altercation. The victim, who works from home repairing laptops for a living, had previously objected to one of his neighbours drinking alcohol while seated in his father's three-wheeler. Although tensions were high at that time, no formal police complaint was lodged by the man.

A Violent Confrontation on Sunday Night

The situation escalated dramatically on Sunday around 8 pm. The complainant was standing at the entrance of his lane when the same neighbour called him over. When the victim explained that he needed to take his unwell wife to the hospital, the accused allegedly summoned three other individuals.

The four men then launched a brutal attack on the 36-year-old. They rained punches on him, and one of the assailants, who was wearing an object similar to a knuckleduster, struck him a powerful blow near his left eye. The assault left the victim injured and traumatised, following which he approached the police to seek justice.

Legal Repercussions and Police Action

Taking cognizance of the serious allegations, the Madhavpura police have now registered a formal case based on the victim's complaint. The FIR details the sequence of events, from the initial dispute over drinking in the autorickshaw to the violent group assault. Police are investigating the matter and are expected to take action against the identified accused.

This incident highlights how minor neighbourhood disagreements can sometimes spiral into serious violence. It also underscores the importance of reporting initial disputes to authorities to prevent such escalations. The victim, while dealing with his injuries, is now relying on the legal system to deliver justice.
