Ahmedabad Man Arrested for Selling Duplicate Electric Wires

The special operations group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad city crime branch has apprehended a 32-year-old trader for allegedly storing and vending counterfeit electric wires and associated packaging materials of multiple brands, officials disclosed on Tuesday.

Seizure of Counterfeit Goods

Goods valued at Rs 16.6 lakh were confiscated during the operation. Acting on specific intelligence provided by an investigation officer linked to an intellectual property rights protection firm and an authorized representative of a cable manufacturer, the SOG conducted a raid at a residential property in Odhav. The premises, situated in the Adinathnagar locality, was being utilized as a storage facility for spurious electrical items.

Details of the Raid

During the search, authorities recovered substantial quantities of duplicate wires of various specifications, including bundles of 1 sq mm, 1.5 sq mm, and 2.5 sq mm. Additionally, packaging materials such as printed cardboard boxes, hologram labels, stickers, and plastic bags mimicking those of well-known brands were seized. Network cable boxes of another brand were also discovered at the location.

Accused and Legal Action

The accused, identified as Vikram Purohit, had stocked these materials for distribution in the local market under the pretense of genuine branded products. The total worth of the seized items, comprising duplicate wires and packaging material, is estimated at Rs 16.6 lakh. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Copyright Act, 1957, at the DCB police station.
