Elderly Man Assaulted and Property Vandalized in Ahmedabad Following Money Dispute
In a disturbing incident in Ahmedabad, an elderly man was brutally assaulted and property was vandalized outside the office of former BJP corporator Prakash Gurjar in the Bapunagar area late on Monday. The violence erupted from a dispute over money that escalated rapidly, leading to significant damage and injuries.
Details of the Attack and Dispute
According to police reports, the attack was allegedly carried out by Jigar Patel, also known as Jigar Kathiyawadi, along with his three associates. The victim, who lives near Gurjar's office in the Gujarat Housing Board locality close to Gayatri Mandir, was targeted after a conflict involving his son. The accused and the victim's son had known each other since meeting in Sabarmati Central Jail several years ago.
Police stated that Jigar Patel had allegedly been demanding money from the son and recently called him for a meeting near Nikol, where an argument reportedly occurred. This confrontation set the stage for the subsequent violence.
Escalation to Violence and Vandalism
Around midnight, Jigar Patel and his brother Sevul Patel allegedly arrived at the victim's residence, shouting and demanding to know the son's whereabouts. When the elderly man intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation, he was allegedly attacked with an iron pipe, resulting in injuries.
Soon after, two more aides of the accused joined them, and the group allegedly proceeded to vandalize property outside Gurjar's office. The damage included:
- Damaging an iron locker
- Breaking glass panels
- Smashing a board and a fan installed in the shed
This act of vandalism added to the severity of the incident, highlighting the escalation from a personal dispute to public property destruction.
